Grade 4 Unit 3

Grade 4 Teachers,

Please look at each photo individually and think about the connection of the Area and Division/ Multiplication. This series of photos is the foundation of Unit 3. The Unit Plan will begin with 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication/division without regrouping and progress through 2-digit by 2-digit Multiplication/Division with regrouping. It is essential that the concrete, pictoral and abstract representations of the connection between multiplication/division and area is deeply understood by the teacher prior to this unit. The traditional algorithm is not the starting point – but the endpoint of this unit.

Please take a few moments to stop at each slide and work through the task.
